Though there is more work I wanted to do on it, it is ready-to-use today for many applications. I myself have lived in it for short stints and done a 2 month road trip in winter chasing IKON ski resorts in sub-zero temps. The living room floor plan is currently a completely open space with pine and insulated floor, to do with as you please, 8’ wide inside x ~13 feet long. You may keep the kitchen storage drawers. There is nothing more lovely than opening up an entire wall of your camper (rear barn doors) to see the beach or the mountains. It has a more spacious living area than any camper on the market without slides. I chose warm lighting and ALL-NATURAL materials to create a cozy rustic feel. (No off-gassing of toxic chemicals like most RVs do!) As a tiny house or camper, the build is incomplete / work in progress, though is mostly functional and has enough amenities for many users to start using immediately. For example, the rear living room can be used as a normal cargo or vehicle trailer. It is an open space 13’x8’, and is completely open, with no fixed furniture (pictured living room furnishings are my own and will be removed.) Below I share an extremely thorough account of everything about the rig, and recommended next steps in the build. AESTHETIC: The intended design was to mimic Pueblo / Santa Fe style architecture, and function long-term off-grid with respect to electrical, water, and heat. I can provide my original design sketches and idea/image boards for a truly authentic Santa Fe look, or you can take it in your own direction (most of the remaining work is aesthetic finish work, so you can achieve almost any style). My intention was to MAXIMIZE the openness of the living space, by storing most gear in the kitchen & tow vehicle. RV Battery is at end of life. Still functions. No need to replace if sticking to shore power. 2. Solar is not charging as fast as it used to. It may just need the new battery and to clean the panels, or to tighten up a connection. 3. Propane stove needs a regulator. Currently it works fine but only has a “Med-High” setting, no Low. 4. Window could use some new sealant. Eventually, replaced with permanent window (details below). One is cracked but doesn't leak (details below). ___________ MISC. CARE NOTES: PLUMBING _ In my earlier RV nomad days, I loved boondocking in the desert. I hated nothing more than having to move my entire rig into town to dump tanks & get water; it was by far the biggest chore & disruption in my life. So, I chose to create an off-grid-friendly design, which did NOT require moving the house to do those things. Instead, water issues can be solved on-site, or with a quick run to town in your car. If you prefer traditional RV plumbing, there is plenty of space to add it. Tanks would fit comfortably under the floor, between the steel support beams accessible underneath. Tons of space to add a shower/bathroom. For the kitchen, I’ve been comfortable using a boat/marine setup: 5 gallon fresh water jug, 5 gallon bucket as gray tank, and foot pump. Separate glass jug for filtered drinking water. For toilet, I use a simple contained marine toilet, usually outside in a privacy tent. For showers, I either go to the gym, or sponge bath in my kitchen. Installing a hideaway indoor camp shower in the kitchen could be done in a matter of hours. BENEFITS OF THIS WATER SYSTEM: 1. EASY _ Never have to move your house for tank dumps/refill. Gray bucket can be carried out and dumped anywhere. Marine toilet is safe & easy to transport to dump site. 2. MODULAR _ Infinite water storage. Bring as many extra 5-gal water jugs as you need (I provide 2). Get additional gray jugs / black water containers if needed. 3. CHEAP & SAFE TO MAINTAIN _ If you know RVs, you know what can go wrong with plumbing. Leaks, summer-long repairs at the dealership…these things can cost thousands and even rot & ruin the entire RV! And these systems are usually impossible to access under the floor without expensive and destructive professional work. My simple system completely avoids ALL these risks. 4. NO WINTERIZATION REQUIRED! And no frozen pipes while winter camping. ________________ THE WINDOW _ The window I installed was intended as a temporary solution until I had time to put a larger, more sophisticated one in its place. I know it looks amateur but it has not leaked on me so far, and it at least allows some light in the meantime. It has a crack, yet is virtually impenetrable because it is thick plastic (try banging on it if you wish--no one’s gonna break in). It is probably time to re-seal around it with some sealant or tape.
